去信為「冷血」少女平反

看過《蔚藍的天空》網誌，我也寫了一封信要求保良局董玉娣中學校長為「冷血少女」平反。由於寫的時候缺乏耐性及未能做到心平氣和，現在倒是有點擔心會有反效果。我呼籲大家參加由藍天蔚發起的 petition。

Dear Mr Cheung,

According to the web log of the blogger 'Lam Tin Wai' (http://lamtw.blogspot.com/) and some news reports, a student of your school has been punished because of her comments on the recent Sichuan earthquake disaster.

Admittedly this student's comments are careless and unsympathetic. Yet in an open society everyone has the right to say what he or she wants to say, even if this may seem offensive to the others. As civic education is now promoted in secondary schools, I am sure that you and your colleagues are well aware that the right to freedom of speech and publication is explicitly granted to every resident of Hong Kong by Article 27 of the Basic Law.

Certainly, this does not deprive school administrators of the right to mark down students' bad behaviours on school records. However, when the student in question typed her comments, was she inside school campus or using any of your school's computing facilities? Have she made any references to your school in those comments? If the answers are negative, I wonder on what ground can you or your colleagues perform any punishment.

By punishing her for what you have no right to punish, you are participating in another kind of offensive behaviour and abandoning your role as an educator. I hereby request you to abolish any punishment against this student on the current matter. In particular, please delete any relevant but unfavourable remarks or comments that will be left on her school transcript.

後記：如各位所見，在下的英文水平甚低。回看這封信件，起碼有四五個英文問題。如果各位的語文（不論中、英文）程度淪落到可以和我看齊，希望你們也不怕自曝其短，向張校長表達你的意見。學校不教導和保護學生，反而因為受到外間憤青式的攻擊而嚴懲無知弱小，怎樣說也不是教育家所為。如果今次事件令該校的校譽一落千丈的話，原因恐怕並不在於「冷血少女」的言論，而在於學校的師長失去了教育家的節操。
